Hydcal is produced from calcium hydroxide through the reaction of two components: base paste and catalyst paste. It is used for cavity lining and pulp protection in restorative procedures, without inhibiting the polymerization of composite resins. It has a high resistance to dissolution by phosphoric acid, is produced in a color similar to that of dentin, to prevent it from influencing the color of restorative materials, and is radiopaque.

INDICATION:

It is indicated for pulp capping and as a protective liner under restorative materials or other cements.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Hydcal is a self-setting and rigid composition made of calcium hydroxide, by the reaction of a base paste and a catalyst paste, which should be mixed at the moment of use. It is used for cavity lining and pulp protection in restorative procedures. Hydcal does not inhibit the polymerization of composite resins used for restorations. Also, it has high resistance to dissolution by the phosphoric acid used for acid etching of dental structures. Hydcal is produced in a color similar to the dentin in order to avoid any influence to the color of restorative materials. Hydcal is radiopaque.

COMPOSITION:

Base Paste: Ester Glicol Salicilate, Methyl Salicilate, Barium Sulfate, Titanium Oxide, Silicon oxide and Iron Oxide Colorant.

Catalyst paste: Calcium Hidroxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide Colorant, Zinc Estearate, Etil-toluene Sulphonamide and Purified Water.

VALIDITY:

3 years from manufacture date. No contraindications.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

The product is contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity any of the components of the formula.

MODE OF USE:

1. In a mixing pad, use equal lengths of base paste and catalyst paste.
2. Then, using a spatula, mix the two pastes in order to obtain a uniform color.
3. To guarantee a higher working time, try to complete the mixture in 10 seconds.
4. Put the mixed material inside the cavity, that must be dry, finishing the insertion before the material starts to set.
5. In room temperature and normal humidity, the material sets within 2 to 3 minutes in the mixing pad. Inside the mouth, the setting time is lower because of mouth's humidity and temperature.
6. The excess material in retentive areas or margins may be removed with curettes or explorers, after the material finishes setting.

WARNINGS:

The essential alkaline nature of the material allows it only to be used when it can be protected by the oral environment. The material cannot be used as temporary restorative material or for cementation. It is important to keep the proportion between base and catalyst in order not to change material's radiopacity, resistance, durability and setting time.

STORAGE:

Store at room temperature (15 °C -30°C). After opening, it is recommended that the product is stored under refrigeration (2 °C to 8 °C). However, for its use, it is essential that the product return to temperature.
